THE DELUGE—A SUMMARYStating the matter in the simplest possible terms, the Egyptians calculated the degree of meridian as 360,000 geographic feet = 110,806 meters, whereas the Sumerians calculated it as 360,000 Greek feet = 110,979.54 meters. By the adoption of the Sumerian calculation the circumference of the Earth becomes 39,952,635 meters instead of 39,891,240 meters. This means that the radius of the Earth was increased from 6,348,873 meters to 6,358,644 meters. The increase, which amounts to 9,771 meters, is the height of the Deluge water according to Genesis. The Hebrews before the Exile computed by Roman cubits, which the Talmud calls cubits of Moses. Thus, according to the Hebrew way of expressing the Sumerian calculation, a degree is 250,000 Roman cubits and a great circle is 90,000,000 cubits. In calculating the radius they assumed p = 3 1/8 which is the common practical figure in cuneiform mathematical texts. Hence, they assumed that the radius of the Earth is 14,400,000 cubits. Calculating by the exact value of p, the older radius of the Earth is 14,301,898 Roman cubits and the new radius is 14,323,909 cubits, with a difference of 22,011 cubits. A. Duration 40 + 40 days
This calculation assumes that in the Egyptian system the great circle was 90,000,000 - 140,000 = 89,860,000; calculating by pi = 3 1/8, the radius was 14,400,000 cubits. (14,400,000-14,377,600 = 22,400) 250,000 - 390 = 249,610 = 110,806.421 39,890,311.8 difference of 7 meters. B.
